33 years ago, five teenage Scouts did their DofE Gold expedition following Hadrian’s Wall and then heading into the Cheviots. I’ve just been rereading the log book I wrote at the time. This week, walking alone, I will be retracing our steps along the wall (though I’ll be sleeping in comfortable B&Bs rather than in a Vango Force 10 and eating more luxuriously as well!)
Day 1 saw a visit to Heddon on the Wall where we began our expedition 33 years ago. Then, it poured with rain and we ended up cooking in the bus shelter. This afternoon it was gloriously sunny. On to Corbridge for the evening and a very pleasant B&B before the walking begins in earnest in the morning.
