It rained. The wind blew. I ran.
In the right weather, today’s 20 miler could have been quite fun. An undulating course took us in two loops (one of 12 miles and one of 8) through country lanes and pretty villages around Bedford.
But the weather today was far from right. I knew things were going to be bad when a steward told us all in our line of cars that the car park was waterlogged. The first few miles took us up a gentle incline, but there were downhill stretches as well – The problem was the wind and rain which made the day pretty miserable.
After the first loop it took some mind over matter not to duck out and head for the car. Instead I battled on, but finished with a very slow 3 hrs and 44 m. Certainly not a day for glory.
