Having done Disney, it was now time to do another great American export that Japan loves: Baseball. Tokyo’s ‘dome’ is enormous and it was pretty full for a very exciting match between the Giants and the Swallows. I managed to find myself sitting next to a group of students learning to speak Japanese – from Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore. I was the only one who understood the rules of Baseball, apart from the Korean, but he wasn’t able to explain them to anyone else. So we had a fascinating evening.
I leave for the UK tomorrow. It’s been a tremendous holiday. I shall certainly want to return to this part of the world, preferably with a local friend to help me get underneath the veneer and see what the real country is like.
